Specifying Locations
There are several different ways that you can specify a location for this web site:
UK Postcode
Enter a valid UK postcode. The location will be taken as the centre of the postal district defined by the first part of the postcode.
Examples:
- GU2 9JX = CTC National Office
- KW1 4YH = John O’Groats Youth Hostel
- TR19 7AA = Land’s End
UK Ordnance Survey Grid Reference
This format only works for the UK. Choose one of:
- Enter the OS grid reference in the format LL NNN NNN.
- Enter a fully-numeric OS grid reference in the format NNNN NNNN.
Spaces and commas are optional.
Examples:
- SU 723 397 = Alton Station
- SU 985 521 = CTC National Office
- 4985 1521 = CTC National Office
- 49851521 = CTC National Office
Latitude and Longitude coordinates
Choose one of:
- Enter the latitude, followed by a comma, then the longitude. Both values should be in decimal notation.
- Enter the latitude, followed by N or S, then the longitude followed by E or W. Both values should be in decimal notation.
- Enter the longitude, followed by E or W, then the latitude followed by N or S. Both values should be in decimal notation.
- Enter the latitude and longitude in degrees/minutes/seconds format.
Spaces and commas are optional.
Examples:
- 51.2603, -0.5893 = CTC National Office
- 55.85 N, 4.26 W = Central Glasgow
- 58.64, -3.07 = John O’Groats
- 50.06, -5.71 = Land’s End
- 5.71W 50.06N = Land’s End
- 50°03’36.0”N, 5°42’36.0”W = Land’s End
- 51°15’37.1”N, 0°35’21.5”W = CTC National Office
Pick on a Map
Click on the button next to the location input box to display a pop-up world map. Then click on the map to define the location. You can zoom and pan around the world. Once you are happy with the location on the map, click on the "Set Location" button.
